as the wind ruffles
its purple blossoms
drifting clouds of colour

straight and tall from the water,
in reflection
curl away into the depths –

    thunder breaks the sky
in the quiet
something listens
to a thousand rain drops
on a thousand leaves

my clock
on the window ledge
with midnight rain
the hours washed clean

  trying not to wake you
as a bad dream fades
on the wall
our shadows return
side by side

    the sound of dawn
hauled in throw nets
rises and falls
around your swaddled silence
my song of solitude
