No country for dogs

“And what about the treatment of women,” the foreign delegates ask the leader as they cross the square. He smiles and swiftly kicks a passing dog. It whimpers then recoils. His hand brushes off the length of his fine linen djellaba. “Understand? If you pet a dog, it follows you, becomes attached.” He stands upright for the next question.
